    Alan,

    You’re probably already aware of the Biblical misappropriation represented by the “someecards” placard you posted above, but in case you’re not, and because it’s such an oft-repeated error, I like to point out the following every time I encounter it: Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that “God will never give you more than you can handle.” The closest the Bible comes to making such a ridiculous claim is in 1 Corinthians 10:13, which states that God will not tempt you beyond what you can bear.

    I say ridiculous because, if God does give, God frequently gives more than what one or another can bear. Witness suicides, homicides, etc.
